Rain slowly moves out, clearing with a chilly night ahead

We broke a record high temperature on Friday, Oct. 16, making that the third-straight day of record heat in the Triangle.

Despite all that unseasonable heat, fall returns in a big way this weekend.

  • Saturday night: Chilly and clearing with lows in the 30s and 40s.
    • Sunday: More sunshine and drier. Highs at around 60.
      • Monday: Mostly sunny with highs in the mid 60s.
        • Tuesday: Sunny and dry. Highs reaching to around 70°.

Front has passed, getting chilly Saturday night

After record highs to end the past week, it has been much cooler for our Saturday!

We will cool off through tonight with clearing skies. Lows will be chilly Sunday morning in the mid 30s-40.

Some patchy frost is possible especially in our northern, low-lying spots.

We'll only reach to around 60° on Sunday, but we'll have tons of sunshine. The weather will be great for the State Fair.

It will be breezy, though. Gusts could reach up to around 30 mph with higher gusts along the coast thanks to a developing Nor'easter.

Nor'easter forms off the Outer Banks

An area of low pressure develops offshore this weekend, turning into a multi-day Nor'easter along the Outer Banks.

As the low spins offshore, we could see rough surf and ocean over wash along HWY 12 at The Outer Banks. Their wind gusts will peak between 40 mph and 55 mph, too.

The National Hurricane Center has outlined an area off the east coast due to this area of low pressure, but it has a low chance of formation.

At home, however, the northerly breeze around the storm will keep us dry and seasonable into much of next week.

The latest drought report released on Oct. 15 showed little change from the previous week for central North Carolina. Eastern and western NC saw some continued improvements thanks to rain from the remnants of Isaias.
