Buc-ee's wants to come to Rocky Mount. WRAL has confirmed a letter circulating on social media about a planned store is true.

According to the letter, the Texas-based chain wants to build a store on 34-acres of land near NC Highway 4 and Interstate 95.

"Major!" is how Rocky Mount City Councilman Jabaris Walker describes the planned development. "The reason why is because we've been looking for something that can make the city have a wow moment and a wow positive, exciting moment," said Walker.

Walker said details on the number of jobs created or the amount of money that could be brought into Rocky Mount is not known yet.

"This is just the starting point, but know that I will be cheering on Buc-ee’s all along the way! This is a culmination of hard work done by city staff in partnership with the Buc-ee’s team," said Rocky Mount Mayor Sandy Roberson in a statement.

Longtime resident John Bryant welcomes a Buc-ee's to the city.

"I think it's going to bring more business into the area and more business might develop elsewhere and really the economy up," said Bryant.

While people are excited, Councilman Walker said an opportunity will be provided for people to get answers to any questions or concerns on issues like increased traffic.

"Meetings will be held in the community about concerns," said Walker. "Come with solutions but also come with concerns and I think they'll have a solution for you."

According to the letter, a community meeting will be held on October 22nd at 6:00pm at the Frederick Turnage Municipal Building at 331 S. Franklin Street in Rocky Mount.
