Yolanda Whaley hopes her son spends the rest of his life behind bars.

When she got the call that her son, Devon Whaley, was charged with murdering his girlfriend, she said she screamed. She was not shocked. Her son has been charged in domestic violence incidents involving multiple women.

At times, Yolanda has been the one making the call to police.

Arrest warrants say Devon Whaley killed Rasheka Crudup on Monday, October 12th. He was arrested that day and charged with First Degree murder and breaking and entering.

“I knew one day it was going to happen, and I felt something was coming,” Yolanda Whaley said.  “This girl could have been saved.”

She first noticed alarming behavior when he was a child.

“I see the path my son is going on,” Whaley recalled saying of her son as a teen. “I said if we don’t stop him now, he’s going to hurt somebody’s child."

In a Facebook post, Franklin County Sheriff Kevin White called Devon Whaley ‘evil in the flesh.’

A review of Whaley’s 30 criminal charges in North Carolina dating back to 2009 shows a history of arrests and court cases.

He spent seven years in prison for assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping and was released in 2024.

The charges stem from a 2016 incident that ended with a man-hunt that garnered national attention.

This January, he was charged in a domestic violence incident involving a different victim.

He was found guilty in May but was only sent to jail for 60 days.

Most of the times Whaley has been accused of a crime, charges were dropped.

Sheriff White expressed frustration in a Facebook post saying the latest crime was avoidable if Whaley had been held accountable for previous offenses.

Instead, Yolanda Whaley says, lives are ruined.

She said she has spoken to her son since his arrest, but said he knows she will not defend him.

“You didn’t love her. I said you know who loves her more?” Whaley said. “Her children, her parents, that’s who loves her more. How dare you take her away from them.”
