11 vehicles involved in I-85 chain reaction crash near Durham

No serious injuries were reported Thursday morning in an 11-vehicle crash on Interstate 85 near the Durham-Orange County line.

State Highway Patrol (SHP) said two people were transported with minor injuries.

The view from Sky 5 at 8 a.m. showed at least seven cars damaged in what appeared to be a chain-reaction crash.  SHP confirmed a total of 11 cars were involved. As a result, all northbound lanes of I-85 were closed at Exit 170, near U.S. Highway 70 for two hours and reopened at 9 a.m.

The crash included multiple sedans, a pickup truck and SUVs. One of the cars appeared to have severe fire damage to its windshield and front hood. It appeared that seat belts were used in all vehicles.
