Sky 5: At least 7 vehicles involved in I-85 chain reaction crash near Durham

Sky 5 on Thursday morning flew over a serious crash on Interstate 85 near the Durham-Orange County line.

The view from Sky 5 at 8 a.m. showed at least seven cars damaged in what appeared to be a chain-reaction crash. As a result, all northbound lanes of I-85 are closed at Exit 170, near U.S. Highway 70.

The crash included multiple sedans, a pickup truck and SUVs. One of the cars appeared to have severe fire damage to its windshield and front hood.

WRAL News is working to learn if anyone was injured.

At least two tow trucks were on scene to move the cars, but the closure could persist throughout the morning commute.

As a detour, drivers can take Exit 170, turn right onto U.S. 70 East, and turn left onto Cole Mill Road to get back to I-85 North.
