HSOT Jamboree ends in scoreless tie between #19 Rolesville and #22 Wake Forest

CARY, N.C. — An end zone interception picked off by Rolesville defender Jalen Newsome wasn't enough to fuel an offensive run for #19 Rolesville as the Rams and #22 Wake Forest ended the night in a scoreless draw to conclude the first HighSchoolOT Jamboree on Monday.

The HighSchoolOT Jamboree at First Horizon Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park is brought to you by State Employees Credit Union, Talk it Out NC, the United States Army, and Wake Orthopaedics.

The event features 10 high-profile programs from around the state: Union Pines, Hunt, J.H. Rose, #19 Rolesville, #9 Southeast Raleigh, #22 Wake Forest, #7 Cardinal Gibbons, #4 Millbrook, Middle Creek, and #25 Southern Durham.

Hunt and Union Pines played on Saturday, Aug. 8, as did J.H. Rose. The Rampants had limited field time in a matchup with Rolesville that lasted just six minutes on Saturday before the jamboree was postponed due to inclement weather. The remaining seven teams returned to Cary for the makeup games on Monday.

This was the third of three games in a round robin between Rolesville, Southeast, and Wake Forest. All three of these games are 25 minutes with a running clock. For additional differing rules, read here.

A potentially promosing drive for Rolesville was clipped by Wake Forest defensive end and 3-star Rutgers commit Josiah Strurdivant as he sacked Rolesville quarterback Marley Emerson. That brought up third and long with about 15 minutes to play. Emerson nearly made up for it with a hail mary touchdown, but the ball slipped through the arms of Ram senior wide receiver and Virginia Tech commit A.J. Roberts in the end zone.

That gave the ball back to the Cougars as the clock ticked inside of 13 minutes. However, Wake gave up posession rather quickly. It didn't take long for it to get the ball back, though. A great stop by Campbell defensive back commit Jayden Debnam prevented another longball to Roberts with eight minutes to go. Shortly after that, the Cougars recovered a Rolesville fumble to command posession in Ram territory with seven minutes to play.

As the Cougars approached the end zone, backup quarterback Zach Hughes threw an interception in the end zone that was picked by Ram sophomore Newsome. What could have been a pick-6 flared out as Newsome lost his balance.

Rolesville's final opportunity fizzled out as both teams remained scoreless as triple zeros hit the scoreboard.
