Spain is back on top of the soccer world.

Sixteen years after its last World Cup title, Spain captured the championship Sunday, prompting celebrations from hundreds of fans gathered at Sports & Social in Cary to watch the match.

As the final whistle blew, supporters erupted in cheers, waving flags and chanting in celebration.

“It was Spain or France from the beginning, and we were the ones that did it,” one fan said after the victory.

Throughout the match, the bar was filled wall-to-wall with soccer supporters, creating a lively atmosphere as fans from a variety of countries watched the back-and-forth championship game together.

The crowd’s reactions mirrored the tension on the field, with cheers, groans, and applause echoing throughout the venue before Spain secured the win.

“Vamos España!” fans shouted moments after the match ended.

The championship also brought plenty of friendly rivalry.

Fans representing different countries traded playful banter while cheering on their teams, adding to the spirited atmosphere.

“This is your moment to face the truth- the Spanish truth,” one Spain fan joked to friends.

For many, the watch party was about more than just the final score.

“Our friend is from Spain, I’m from Iraq- Baghdad. But he had to leave to see his family in España. So we told him we got him here,” said Ali Hamdani. “So we came in full gear. ¡Viva España!”

While the newly crowned champions celebrated thousands of miles away, fans in the Triangle created a championship atmosphere of their own, proving the world’s biggest soccer tournament reaches far beyond the field.
