Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run on I-40 in Raleigh early Sunday morning

A pedestrian was killed early Sunday morning on I-40 in Raleigh in a hit-and-run crash.

Raleigh police identified the woman as 33-year-old Jena Shively. They said she was in the roadway near the South Saunders Street interchange when she was hit by a car, around 12:15 a.m.

The driver did not remain on scene after hitting Shively, and following the intial crash several other vehicles hit her while she was in the road. 

The eastbound lanes were closed for nearly five hours while police investigated the crash. 

They are working to figure out who hit the woman.
