Motorcyclist killed, several injured after DWI crash shuts down part of Capital Boulevard

A motorcyclist died and three others were injured after a tow truck crashed into several vehicles on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh, police said.

Around 2:30 a.m. Friday Raleigh police responded to a fatal crash involving a tow truck, two motorcycles and a car at the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Trawick Road.

WRAL spoke with family members at the scene, and they said the two men on motorcycles are cousins and identified them as Chandler Hodge, 35 and Larry Pulley. 

Hodge was killed in the crash, and Friday is his birthday. He leaves behind a set of twins. 

Pulley is in the hospital with a head injury and injury to his kidneys. He is alert and stable, but does not remember what happened, according to family. 

Arrest warrants indicate that the tow truck driver, 39-year-old Allen Guerrero, was drunk driving and was arrested at the scene, just before 3 a.m. 

One motorcyclist was killed in the crash, and the other was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. 

There were two people in the car and they were both taken to the hospital. Police said the passenger in the car has life-threatening injuries.

Guerrero made an illegal U-turn on a red light and ran into the motorcycles and the car, police said. He is charged with the following, according to arrest warrants:

• Aggravated felony death by vehicle
• Felony serious injury by vehicle [3 counts]
• Driving While Impaired
• Driving While License Revoked
• Resisting Public Officer
• Intoxicated and Disruptive

He was also ticketed for the following infractions:

• Failure to stop at a red light
• Unsafe movement that resulted in a crash, inflicting serious injury
• Unsafe movement

Guerrero is being held at the Wake County jail on two separate secured bonds, totaling $500,000. 

His bond amount for Agg. Felony Death by Vehicle, Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle (3) is set to $350,000. 

His bond amount for Driving While License Revoked - Impaired, Resisting Public Officer, Intoxicated and Disruptive, and Driving While Impaired is set to $150,000.

The release order states Officers reports fatalities as a result of the wreck, defendant currently revoked for DWI; defendant has ignition interlock restriction; defendant has DWI convictions 7/25/2018 and 5/5/2025.
