Former Durham superintendent abruptly resigns from role in Buffalo after less than a year

Former Durham Public Schools superintendent Pascal Mubenga has resigned from his leadership role in Buffalo, New York.

Mubenga stepped down as Buffalo Public Schools superintendent on Monday night.

WGRZ, our NBC affiliate in Buffalo, reported the decision came as a "complete shock," and the reason for his departure is unknown.

Mubenga had only been in the role for a year. According to WGRZ, the Buffalo Teacher's Federation described May and June as "tumultuous" for the district.

Mubenga took the job in Buffalo after resigning as Durham Public Schools superintendent in 2024 over budgetary concerns.
