Cary High School didn't have to look far to find its next athletic director.

The Imps have picked Kenneth Kinsey, a longtime Cary coach and teacher, to take over the athletic department.

Kinsey took over the job on July 1. He replaces Ryan Rodgers, who led the Imps for five seasons.

The coach has spent 16 seasons coaching at Cary in some capacity. He has recently served as the assistant athletic director, in addition to his well-known role as the JV football head coach.

16 Imp teams made the N.C. High School Athletic Association 7A playoffs during the 2025-26 school year.

"Kinsey brings  with him experience, a championship-mindset, bedrocked relationships and  an established tradition at Cary High that is nothing short of  legendary," the school said.

Cary competes in the Triangle Six 6A/7A Conference with Cardinal Gibbons, Felton Grove, Holly Springs, Middle Creek, and Sanderson.
