Hough football's highly heralded Joshua Dobson picks South Carolina

North Carolina’s highest rated football prospect committed to the University of South Carolina on Wednesday at Hough High School.

Per Rivals, Joshua Dobson is not only a 5-star prospect, but the No. 6 ranked recruit nationally, regardless of position. The site rates him as the top prospect in the state and the No. 2 player at cornerback nation-wide. But six months ago, Dobson wasn’t from North Carolina at all.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound rising senior announced his decision to transfer from Catawba Ridge High School in Fort Mill, South Carolina, this past January. Dobson landed at Hough, a football program coming off a dominant undefeated run to the 2026 N.C. High School Athletic Association 8A state championship. Dobson will fill the void at outside corner that was caused by the graduation of Husky 4-star Samari Matthews.

Now, Dobson will head back to South Carolina after his senior season at Hough. He chose the Gamecocks over Auburn, Michigan, South Carolina, and Texas A&M.
