Vance County Schools appoints Destiney Ross-Putney as next superintendent

The Vance County Board of Education has appointed Dr. Destiney Ross-Putney as the next superintendent of Vance County Schools, replacing an earlier decision to name her interim superintendent.

Ross-Putney will officially take over the role on August 1, following the retirement of Superintendent Dr. Cindy Bennett on July 31.

Ross-Putney currently serves as the district’s chief officer of instruction and innovation. A graduate of Vance County Schools, she began her career with the district in 2008 as a math teacher at Northern Vance High School and has since held several leadership positions, including assistant principal, curriculum specialist and executive director of the Center for Innovation and Professional Learning.

“I’ve spent my career helping build opportunities for students in Vance County Schools,” Ross-Putney said. “Now I’m honored to lead the district into its next chapter, with a deep respect for what we’ve accomplished together and an unwavering commitment to doing what is best for children.”

“The Board is proud to appoint Dr. Ross-Putney as the next Superintendent of Vance County Schools,” Board Chair Ayana Lewis said. “Her deep understanding of our district, proven record of innovation, and commitment to student success make her exceptionally well-prepared to lead Vance County Schools into the future.”

Ross-Putney officially becomes superintendent on Aug. 1, following Bennett’s retirement on July 31.
