Elementary school in Knightdale battles AC issues in blazing heat

Lockhart Elementary told families that the air conditioning was not working "at full capacity" on Thursday.

Thursday's school schedule has remained the same despite warm temperatures. According to Principal Tomarah Lipscomb, staff allowed for "plenty of water breaks" and moved students from "excessively warm rooms."

Lipscomb said the issue caused the building to be "noticeably warm." Parents with students at Lockhart Elementary told WRAL News that temperatures reached 82 degrees in some of the classrooms.

It's expected to reach the upper 90s on Thursday.

Another parent told WRAL News that the air conditioning issue has gone on " for over a week." The note from Lockhart Elementary to parents did not mention how long the issue has lasted. 

The elementary school notified maintenance, and a technician will be dispatched.

Last month, the Wake County Public School System reported HVAC failures at 15 schools in the district.
