Police: Father charged with killing 9-week-old daughter in Dunn

Police officers on Tuesday charged a man with killing his 9-week-old daughter the day before in Dunn.

Terrion Donal Byrd, the child's father, was arrested and charged with murder. 

According to the Dunn Police Department, officers received reports of an unresponsive infant around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, who had been taken to Betsy Johnson Hospital.

Police said despite their attempts to stabilize the child for transport to a trauma center, the infant died at Betsy Johnson Hospital.

Officers said the Chief Medical Examiner determined the child died from blunt force trama to her head and multiple rib fractures.

Police said they obtained a search warrant of a home in the 300 block of West Broad Street. The  North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting processing the crime scene.
