Two hospitalized, hundreds lose power after Glenwood Avenue crash at Five Points

Crews are working to replace a utility pole and restore power to hundreds of customers after an early morning crash in Raleigh.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded to a single vehicle crash on Glenwood Avenue at Five Points overnight.

Police said the vehicle hit a utility pole and knocked out power in the area for about 300 Duke Energy customers. Traffic lights were out in the area.

Police said two people in the vehicle were taken to the hospital for serious injuries. 

The WRAL Breaking News Tracker was on the scene and saw a vehicle flipped upside down with debris scattered across the road.

Duke Energy estimated the power would be restored around 12 p.m.. At 4 a.m., the car was towed away so work can begin to fix the damaged utility pole. At 7 a.m., crews were working to install a new pole, and power had been restored for some customers.
