Halifax Co. sheriff: Man charged with statutory rape after search for child in Roanoke Rapids

A man is facing sex crime charges on Sunday after deputies with the Halifax County Sheriff's Office found a missing child.

According to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, deputies on Friday responded to an address in the Roanoke Rapids area in reference to locating a missing juvenile from Warren County.

Deputies did not specify where in Roanoke Rapids they searched.

During the service call, a deputy made contact with an investigator and advised them of possible inappropriate contact with a minor. Eventually, the sheriff's office conducted a search warrant of the home, where they found the juvenile inside.

A man inside the home, 24-year-old Jared Jeffers, was arrested and charged with statutory rape of a minor.

Jeffers was taken to the Halifax County Jail under no bond.
