Trip to Vegas: 5 On Your Side has what to know before booking your ticket to the Stanley Cup Final

The Canes defeated Montreal in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final and are now gearing up to battle the Vegas Golden Knights for the Stanley Cup.

Games 3, 4 and 6 would be road games for Carolina in the prime vacation destination of Las Vegas. WRAL’s 5 On Your Side has an early look at what you should know if you're considering making the trip.

With high gas prices, driving the 34-hour one-way road trip likely will not be the cheaper option.

If you're shopping for nonstop flights from RDU, you'll have one less option beginning next week.

Delta is suspending its nonstop flight to Las Vegas from RDU for the summer months beginning on June 2. Southwest is the only other airline with nonstop flights from Raleigh to Vegas.

WRAL News asked the airlines and the airport if offerings might change should the Canes advance. An RDU spokesperson said scheduling decisions are up to each airline, based on factors such as anticipated demand. Officials said the airport has not been contacted about any plans to expand services for the Stanley Cup playoffs.

5 On Your Side took a look at flight costs if you were to book a single round-trip ticket to Vegas on Southwest for Games 3 and 4 the second week of June. You'd be paying anywhere from $400 to $600 if flying around June 6 and returning around June 11.

Of course, you can expect that to only go up as the date gets closer and schedules are set.

For all-inclusive packages, be on the lookout for offers tailored to fans, likely to show up once the finals are set.

The main takeaway is to prepare to spend a couple of thousand dollars when you combine air, travel and accommodations. Experts also recommend booking as soon as possible to avoid even higher prices if you can do so.
