Squishy toy sold at Walmart recalled due to asbestos risk

Posted: 5/29/2026, 12:42:11 PM

A children's squishy toy sold at major retailers, including Walmart, is being recalled over concerns it could contain asbestos.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says more than 120,000 Orb Factory Funkee Monkee gorillas may be affected by this recall. The products are made of a soft, stretchable material and filled with sand.

The toys were sold from February 2025 to April 2026 at Walmart and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet stores nationwide for between $5 and $40.

The recalled toys may contain fibrous tremolite or asbestos in the sand, which can cause adverse health issues if inhaled, according to the CPSC.

The recall covers several different models and colors. It includes two models of Orb Funkee squeeze toys with the date code 3102491A.

Models included:

  • Model 17451, which is a large golden monkey (stylized “monkee”) - Date code can be found on the hand.
    • Model 41929 is an assortment of small “monkees” in various colors, including orange, purple and green - Date code can be found on the back of the smaller monkees.

Federal safety officials urge customers to dispose of the toy immediately, or contact The Orb Factory for a refund.

If the toy has been punctured or the sand has escaped, the Orb Factory has directed consumers to put on a mask and gloves and use damp cloths to pick up any sand that has leaked out. The toy, cloths, mask, gloves and toy should be put in a heavy-duty plastic bag, then placed into a second bag that is sealed with tape. Consumers should then dispose of the bag in accordance with local or state regulations.
